Introduction

Lois Anderson runs a letter-carving workshop in Islington, North London. Working mainly to commission, we make memorials, cremation tablets, signs for and on houses and public buildings and interior and exterior decorative pieces.

Architectural work

Most architectural work is carried out on site, we are fully trained to use scaffold towers and are experienced in working on building sites, and can work to almost any scale. We also undertake updating lettering for organisations like the RIBA.

Memorials and cremation tablets

Memorials and cremation tablets are generally a close collaboration between the client and the studio. The whole process normally takes between six months and a year to complete.

Decorative projects

We generally do decorative projects as a way to experiment with new and old materials, different letterforms, and formats.

Restoration work

Recently we have been doing some restoration work developing experience in re-carving old and worn lettering, mainly headstones.

I am a London based lettercarver, working from my studio in Islington.

I now work to commission on headstones and memorials. I do restoration and cleaning of old stones.

I also do applied lettering on buildings and am the stonecarver to the RIBA, updating the lettering at their building at Portland Place.
